Fertility, Family and Hope in 2017

Posted January 2, 2017 by Claire

As we wrapped up 2016, our team at NRM was overjoyed with meeting the babies of 2016. We have now had over 500 babies born from our NRM patients!   The babies came in all shapes and sizes, some from more basic fertility therapy and some from very advanced therapy. Some babies came from donor egg and some from donor sperm. Some babies had one mom and some had two moms, or two dads. But they all share this in common: they are part of a family, built with hope and love.   The challenges of fertility treatment can bring an emotional roller coaster of expectation, disappointment, and anxiety. Most individuals never predicted they would be challenged by fertility, yet many find that their struggle leads to powerful personal growth. Our patients may discover new areas of strength, reinforce their relationships, and develop new forms of coping. Everybody’s story is different.

“Courage is the power to let go of the familiar”

Moving into 2017, we look ahead to the many families we hope to help grow. Families may grow through insemination or in-vitro fertilization; families may grow with surrogate carriers, or through adoption. At NRM, we know there are many ways to build a family. We are so grateful for the opportunity to help our patients find the path that is right for them. We often have patients return to us after conceiving in a “non-traditional” way, with tears of happiness in their eyes, and wishing they could offer encouragement for other individuals and couples struggling to determine their next steps. They tell us they cannot imagine it any other way.   The author of Finding You In Fertility writes the following in his book.

“If you want to become a parent, then one day you will be a parent, but you need to be open to the way in which that will happen. When you are finally holding that child in your arms, it will be your child, and you will be its parent, no matter how the two of you are brought to each other.”

Our wish for the New Year: to provide hope, and help you build your family in 2017.
