Nursing and Medical Assistants

Our NRM Nursing and Medical Assistant Staff
Our physicians, nurses, medical assistants, embryologists, and office personnel work closely on a day-to-day basis. Many of us have worked together for years–the NRM team has supported each other through marriages, babies, and sending kids off to college. In this blogpost we will introduce you to some of our colleagues—to help you get to know the people with whom we at NRM consider our second family!
We are delighted to introduce Nicole Huff—NRM’s Nurse Manager and IVF Coordinator. Nicky has been a nurse for 21 years, after graduating from UVM in the class of ’93. She has spent 14 years as a nurse in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. “I love that my job allows me to be involved in a person’s care from start to finish. I meet them at the initial visit and I give them the results of a pregnancy test. Whether the results are positive or negative I feel it is important that the news comes from someone who knows what the person has gone through to get to this point.” After working for years with Nicky, we know that she is a critical lifeline for patients. There is very little that she doesn’t know or can’t find out very quickly—and we repeatedly hear from patients and staff that it is comforting to work with someone with Nicky’s level of competence. Nicky lives in Burlington with her husband, Brent, and her very bright and funny 9 year old Ethan, as well as 2 dogs. We love Nicky’s ability to make lasting connections with patients, her multitasking skills and her funny stories.
Stephanie Olmstead, IVF nurse and Donor Sperm Coordinator, invigorates our team with her positive attitude and great work ethic. Stephanie has been an REI/IVF nurse for 2 years since graduating from Vermont Technical College and we feel lucky to have her as a part of our team. Stephanie relays: “I love my job and being able to help people through difficult and stressful times. It is rewarding to help couples achieve their family goals. Although I’ve been in this field for a relatively short period of time, I have quickly learned from my supportive colleagues and I love being a part of a successful practice. I look forward to growing with our team at Northeastern Reproductive Medicine and helping many more families to come!” Stephanie and her husband live in Fairfax, VT with their 4 dogs and 2 cats. We really enjoy Stephanie’s bright smile, funny sense of humor, and consistent hard work–and we think our patients will too.
We are lucky to have Monique Van Leuven on our team as an IVF nurse and our Third- Party Reproduction Coordinator. Monique graduated from Vermont Technical College in 2010 and has been nursing for four years; 2 of those in the IVF field. Monique plays an essential role in the communication and flow of information between egg donors and/or gestational carriers and their Intended Parents. Monique relays the best part about her job: “The connections I make with patients. This is often a long and stressful time for patients, and knowing that I can help them understand the process and keep going during some tough times is so awesome.” Monique comes from a small enclave near St. Albans where she lives with her husband Jason, her beautiful daughters Audrey (7 1/2) and Cloe (3 1/2), 1 cat and 1 guinea pig. We love Monique’s exceptional skills with electronic health records, her sweet compassion with patients and the fact that she speaks French!
NRM’s team wouldn’t be complete without Sara Carey, our energetic Medical Assistant. Sara graduated from UVM with a degree in Elementary Education but soon realized that “…in my heart, I wanted to work in the health care field being able to help others. I chose to change my career in 2008 and started working as a Medical Assistant—I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I love the relationships that are created with our patients and the compassion that goes along with the job. Being able to help our physicians and nurses provide great care to our patients through stressful times is truly rewarding.” Because of her outstanding and efficient work, Sara was chosen to be a member of Dr. Casson’s research team for the Reproductive Medicine Network from 2010-2013. Sara lives in Colchester with her husband Jason and her incredibly adorable 1 year old daughter, Ella, and their two beagles. We love Sara’s upbeat approach and her friendly, professional demeanor with colleagues and patients, and know you will too.
